Math Clinic Analysis: Optimization of Sensor Coverage
Abstract
This academic clinic observes the problem of proper sensor placement for optimized triangulation coverage of a 2-dimensional space. Circle packing has is a well-studied subject, however it is limited to a single sphere of influence. In application, sensors must be placed within a certain distance from one another (due to radio range), but outside of a minimum distance (due to signal skew) for proper triangulation.
In this project, we outline the optimization process necessary for proper sensor placement to track an object in 2-dimensional space. Object movement is randomize via Lévy distribution.
